Law enforcement lets informants break the law, even murder. Redacted reports indicate that the FBI still will not tell the truth. If we cannot achieve things in a legal way, but most importantly in a moral way, then we should not be doing them at all.

But government and law enforcement don’t do things that live up to American ideals. As a result, we are fast becoming a nation with little confidence in law enforcement and constituted authority, of whom we should have an expectation of being aboveboard.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) charged JPMorgan Chase Ventures Energy Corp. with inflating energy prices in California and the Midwest from 2010 to 2012. In settlement, Chase agreed to pay a record $410 million in penalties.

Chase is just another example of a corporation manipulating their bottom line to put profits before the interests of people. Moreover, this insatiable drive for profit in the end damages the economy and lowers confidence in corporate credibility.

Chase’s folly brings back recollections of Enron at the beginning of this century. Do you remember Enron, the failed American energy company who employed tricky accounting practices in order to hide some of their debt from regulators and shareholders, and making the company seem more profitable. Besides defrauding shareholders, who lost $75 billion, California experienced rolling power blackouts and economic devastation. Enron paid a settlement of $1.5 billion for its violations.

It is annoying that Republicans and those who oppose the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) aka Obamacare want it repealed, defunded and dismantled; they simply want it gone no matter what. The Republicans say shut down government if we have to; we need to do whatever it takes. But I have heard no mention of tweaking the law to make it better or even an offer of something to take its place. It’s also very annoying that so many of us lack compassion, are misinformed, or simply ignorant of what the law requires.

The salient problem is a need to take the profit out of healthcare. The real healthcare problem boils down to that one big issue:  A Healthy Bottom Line: Profits or People.

Aereo’s new HDTV antenna has the potential of changing the way we receive news and entertainment that we normally would receive only through pay-tv or satellite.
